Fresh, Local, Healthy Game…
An ante mortem inspection is carried out before we cull, and this is completed by a professor of wildlife sciences whilst the animals are alive to verify health, physicality, nutrition, etc. These assessments are carried out with the intention of placing nutritious, healthy meat into the human food chain. There are some animal health conditions that can only be assessed when animals are alive. Only animals that can be transformed into a wholesome, nutritious and safe food product can be harvested. The aim of ante mortem inspections are to identify:
- Any condition which might adversely affect human or animal health.
- Diseases with no clear or specific signs during post mortem inspections.
- Game animals with diseases which pose a threat of spreading to livestock.
- Game animals with diseases which pose a threat of spreading to livestock.
- General condition of game species.
- Prevention of cruelty Animals are therefore not harvested should our harvesting team not ensure the health of the animals.
Our harvesting teams ensures that adequate numbers of game are available on the farm before the harvesting operation commences. Our game harvesting team familiarises themselves with the suitability of the terrain where the harvesting operation takes place. A refrigerated truck is stationed at the farm in order to fill the slaughtered game carcasses.
